John is a native of Parma, Ohio
and attended the University of Virginia. He played Offensive and Defensive Tackle for the Cavaliers from 1974-1978. The San Diego Chargers selected him in the fifth round of the College Draft. During his Professional career, he also played for the Kansas City Chiefs and the San Francisco 49ers. As a 49er in 1981, he was a member San Francisco’s first Super Bowl team. He is best remembered for being asked to play both Offensive and Defensive line positions. As a Defensive Tackle, John made the first tackle in the famous goal-line-stand of
Super Bowl XVI.
Since his retirement from football in 1983,
John has lived in Burlingame California, where he has helped
coach the Burlingame H.S football team in his spare time. He has worked in high
tech sales and consulting, and is frequently asked to speak at business meetings,
schools, graduations, churches, prisons, and to, professional sports teams (Stanford Football, New York Mets, San Francisco
Giants, Oakland A’s, and others) business and civic organizations. John
has been a featured speaker at Fiscal Year Kick-off meetings and Sales Rallies where his address focused on the team nature
of today’s Enterprise selling strategies and how to leverage the principles
of Human Performance Technology (HPT) to help organizations reach their goals. John
uses his background in professional sports to help audiences understand how they can use their unique talents in combination
with sports disciplines like “coaching” and on-the-job skill development “practice” to reach high
levels or performance, achievement and reward.
